I'm going to be completely honest with y'all — I was skeptical, and it sounded like a gimmick. A company called Armus reached out and wanted to apply this coating on the bottom of the Beavertail Mosquito. It's completely transparent. It's on the boat right now and you can't even see it.
Before the coating, this boat was doing about 38mph wide open at 6,200–6,300 RPMs. After putting this coating on, we're now running 41–42mph. Those are real numbers. We saw almost 4mph gain on speed and around 1mpg on fuel economy — that's an extra 15–20 miles of range. I didn't change props. The only thing they did was put the coating on the bottom of the boat.
This is going to be a great solution for the flats boat guys that don't want to re-prop, don't want to spend the money on props, are already at the upper end of their RPM range, and want to squeeze a few more miles out of their boat. This is the way to do it.
